about

an attempt to communicate with, tune-in and placate Lorenzo - the Hurricane ___
--- HURRICANE LULLABIES
-
Hurricane Lorenzo, also known as Storm Lorenzo was a rapidly intensifying hurricane and was the easternmost Category 5 Atlantic hurricane on record. Through late September and early October, large swells radiated from the hurricane's massive wind field, impacting much of the Atlantic basin. The extra-tropical remnants of Lorenzo affected Ireland and the United Kingdom on October 3 and 4, bringing gusty winds and heavy rains.
-
tracks 1-5 are recorded as it was - starting at midnight 3rd October 2019 - played live (set-up: hydrophone submerged in outdoors rain-water-collecting barrel using water surface as interface, large steel-spring ["slinkie"] attached to little aluminum bucket as resonator with contact microphone and ordinary microphone wrapped up in plastic bag - all leading to studio inside). What you can hear are basically peaks of wind gusts and water drops with impacts softened by elasticity of spring, undulating water surface and floppy plastic bag in combination with music-like interplay attempting to slow tides of energy.

I am trying to tune-in every moment (=re-tuning basically constantly: using elekwatar = fret-less modified 4-string electric guitar with simple electronics) and create/restore sense of balance - sort of "energetic equilibrium"; to placate the enormous energy of hurricane (though here in Eastern Clare being already peripheral) and trying to "connect" with hurricane as an entity.

Imagine as if some "atmospheric megabeing" and "ultrashaman" would encounter each other as equals while whispering to each other: ssssslooooooowwwwwwwwwww down .... slooooow ....

track 6 is in first part only ambientrecording via devices mentionned above and then layered with another recordings - first with ambient recording from greenhouse with little zoom h2n and then gradually layered with sequences of weather wind patterns on various surfaces of time (=speed up to observe energetic outline of impacts)

track 7 was recorded a few days later as reflection and report in kwatarese meta-language with added complementary sounds relating to the subject either in direct association or in paralel-irrational way.

I do not consider this as music, but rather an exploration of different realm of communication and connection with the surrounding world (=reality).

Note:
On October 2, Met Éireann issued an orange wind warning for six counties on the western coast. Met Éireann also noted the potential for coastal flooding and damage due to large storm surges.[41] On the next day, Met Éireann issued a yellow wind warning for the entire country, and issued yellow rainfall warnings for Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.[42] Several flights at Dublin Airport were cancelled.[43]

On October 3, the extratropical remnants of Lorenzo passed over an M6 Buoy, which is located about 250 mi (400 km) west of Mace Head in Galway, recorded a pressure of 969 hPa (28.6 inHg).[44] The buoy also noted waves of 12.5 m (41 ft) near the center of Lorenzo.[45] A peak gust of 107 km/h (66 mph) was observed at Mace Head.[46] Thousands of homes and businesses lost power, with the Electricity Supply Board restoring 12,000 outages during the night of October 3–4; another 7,500 homes remained without power in the morning.[47] By Friday, October 4, all power had been restored.[48] Donegal town was partially flooded after 50 mm (2.0 in) of rain fell as the River Eske approached high tide.[49] Floodwaters reached 8 in (20 cm) deep in houses next to the river, while several roads were blocked.[50] The nearby towns of Bundoran, Frosses, and Laghey also suffered significant flooding. Damage in the country was generally minimal, with no injuries or major incidents reported.
